Can you really compare what Snoop Dogg says and Don Imus has said?
Snoop Dog is rapper.Imus is a newsman. Snoop does not have a deal with reputible news organization. Don Imus did. I don't like Imus getting fired but please don't compare a man who interviews presidental candidates with a man who speaks on the wonders of marijuana. It's not even funny. It is a double standard and it should be. One is on a news show about World events. The day Snoop dogg host 60 minutes then you have a pont.
Public Comments
- It's kind of funny what he said though because he's old
- Shame on CBS and MSNBC for firing Don Imus in there attempt to distance themselves from a far bigger problem. Shame on Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson for only being offended when Don Imus and the Rutgers female basketball team are involved. The problem of racial intolerance is nothing new, it happens across all ethnic lines to some degree or another. If your willing to tolerate it in lyrics of rap artist, from comedians, your next door neighbor, your boss, in any form at all. No one should be surprised when an old relic like Don Imus, Snoop Dogg, or others make these types of remarks.
- Both use racialy charged speech, yes you can compare.
- Its all about the money!!! Both sides of the coin. Great Morals for both of them. What happened aren't we at war right now? What a whining country we have. What about Freedom of Speech for anybody in this country???
- BRAVO!!!!!!!! Indybud2002--MANY BRAVOs!!! I too disagree with the firing, gives Imus way too much power and fault. The attitude of calling any woman a "ho" is sad. That comment is only a symptom of a country-wide disease and it was like shooting a BB Gun at a train to fire IMUS. Sorry, just one more remark- We are so blessed to live in this country but, Freedom of Speech also can have undesirable consequences.
- Honestly no but people have become more accepting of what snoop says, unlike Don Imus who appears to the public as a bigot or racist and sexist.
- I was walking through Wal-Mart several months ago, listening to their canned music while I shopped. One of the songs that played was rap crap and the words referred to women as being whores and b*itches who liked nothing more than being raped. I complained to the store manager, then called the company headquarters and complained again. That song made me feel dirty but worse, it made me feel afraid. Some people idolize the idiots who produce that stuff, and this song was actually encouraging the rape of woman. So, yeah, I think hip hop that promotes violence against women and the slaughter of police officers is a hell of a lot worse than what Imus said. This is a land of double standards, and that's a shame.
- It's just that both engage in dialogue and words that are equally offensive, yes, SDD is embraced buy the black community as a hero, despite lyrics like this: D-O-double G and I'm here to put this dick on you I'm stuck on pu-ssy and your's is right Rip ridinin' them poles and them doors is tight And I'ma get me a shot for the end of the night Cuz pu-ssy is pu-ssy and baby ya pu-ssy for life Then where do you draw the line?
- Apples to oranges comparison My recollection was Imus' diatribe was aimed directly to the Rutgers' women's basketball team, and that is reprehensible. As for Snoop Dogg, some of his music style and lyrics I don't find acceptable either. However, he didn't aim for the Rutgers' women's basketball team.
- Snoop Dogg was ignorant in his comments. He's basically trying to justify what he and many of his fellow rappers do on much of their music. Mr. Imus is simply being used as a poster boy for something that is much bigger than what he did and also that has been plaguing society for decades. It did not start with Mr. Imus and it certainly will not end with Mr. Imus' dismissal from CBS Radio. Sadly, some people will only get outraged about various things when certain people say such things while letting others slide. This appears to be the case here. Hopefully, everyone will come together and demand that all offensive things be eliminated from TV and radio. Anyone who says otherwise is only perpetrating.
- Here's where you are wrong. NBC owns BET! Snoop Dog is not only on the Radio all across the country, but his Video's are on VH1, BET, MTV, and on the Spike channel, then there is the Spanish channel on week ends and later at night! Imus had a 400,000 audience, Snoop is hitting Millions of listners and veiwers 24/7. The point is Gangsta rap, rap, and hip hop have extremely demoralizing lyrics that have been in the main stream for almost 20 years. Imus doesn't have cd's or music video's. He's never used the N word! Why did Rutgers wait 4 days before commenting? Why did they have to stage a world wide news conference? The girls periodically were looking out at the crowd smiling and laughing at friends or family. But then acted all depresed reading their PLANNED statements. You need to look more at Al Sharpton and what he's done fueling a fire in the past. His ranting and riot leading has led to 9 deaths! Look up on wikipedia at near the bottom of the page. He also lost a law suit and had to pay almost $350,000. By the way Imus is not and never has been a newsman...He is only a shock jock, and has been for over 30 years. Its just that MSNBC the past few years put camera's in the radio station he broadcast from.
- They are both public figures. as a matter of fact, i would say snoop has more influence with what he says on tv or in his lyrics than imus. Maybe imus was just trying to embrace the hip hop culture? let's be real here, if you didn't know a thing about this country and listened to any one of those hip hop cd's with the "parental advisory" stickers on it, at some point you will hear a derogatory remark about a female. so with that, why wouldn't you feel it be acceptable to make those remarks out loud? We are saying it's ok for a black rapper to say it, but b/c it's an old white guy it's not ok? (especially when it is meant to be a joke). This is a great way to bring this hyprocrisy that has been going on over the last few years to the forefront. Do you ever seen a white comedian single out a black man in a predominantly white audience to make fun of him? no. It doesn't happen, not allowed. Now how many times have you seen a black comedian single out a white guy in the audience and poked fun at him? why is it that when a white public figure makes a racist statement he has to go apologize to the leaders of the black people (al and jesse)? as long as black folks want to degrade themselves in their music which is highly influential to their culture and continue to allow themselves to be "spoken for" by these aforementioned black leaders, who both have made racist statements themselves i might add, we are always going to have a problem in this country.
- I would think a person who interviews presidents, wouldn't have the word "ho' in his/her vocabulary.....no, I don't think he should be compared to snoop but he sure ventured into his territory..
- Trust this its not a double standard! By I do agree with most of your argument too! What I'm not getting is this; "When this Powerful Redneck uses demeaning comments to folks who should be innocent from his tongue lashing, why do folks head straight towards the Black community pointing the finger saying they say it all the time! Let me break a few things down so may be White folks can understand!" Rap Music is a product of the environment to which most of the Rappers came from, and truthfully what women are they demeaning sure can't be the ones in the VIDEOS, because they chose that roll themselves!
